If time is short and you want to get out in the water as often as possible, your best bet is the 'Beachhouse' - www.beachhousepranburi.com. Set right on the beach in Pak Nam Pran, this is the perfect spot to base yourself. There is a compressor for pumping up your kites, and a restaurant/bar serving great food all day. This is where many kiters gather at the end of the day. You are also right in the middle of town with a 7/11 and Tesco just around the corner. Some of the best restaurants in the region are just a short walk away. Get in touch with Karl or Michelle to make a reservation. Rates are around 1,000 per night for an a/c room.
If you want to go upmarket, then there are plenty of options available. The Evason Six Senses Resort & Spa is 500m down the road. The resort is set amongst 30-acres of landscaped lush tropical gardens with lotus ponds, and is the best 5 star in the area - www.sixsenses.com/evason-resorts/hua-hin/destination . Room rates vary - so look out for special offers on the internet.
If you have a little more time to spare (say 1 month), there are a number of cabanas set back a short distance from the coast that are quiet, clean and comfortable. You can expect to pay about 7-8,000 baht a month for a detached bungalow with ensuite, a/c, TV and balcony. Your best bet if you plan to stay for a while, is book a night or two at the Beachhouse for when you first arrive, and then check out the options when you get here. There are simply too many to list here.
